Bernards' Blog - A regular digest of things happening on the North York Moors Railway

In June 2013 I was elected to the Board of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - As any enthusiast knows this is one of the finest heritage railways in the UK running between Pickering and Whitby by way of Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont. I stood for re-election in 2016 and was successful.

Communication between the Trust Board (which is in overall control of the Railway) and the members, both Working and 'armchair', is at times a bit tenuous. The purpose of this blog was to record my activities as a Trust Board Member and Booking Clerk. In the Spring of 2014 I was able to persuade Philip Benham, the NYMR Managing Director, to produce an 'official' weekly blog which has run over 30 issues not quite weekly but a credible result non the less. For this reason I stopped producing my blog weekly in December 2014.

After Philip Benham retired in October 2015 the weekly blog was discontinued by Chris Price the new General Manager. However, under his tenure communications improved beyond all recognition and the GM blog was not particularly missed.

Towards the end of 2014 the Trust Board asked me to set up and Chair a Communications Committee to seek to improve information flow to and from the members and staff.

One of the outputs from this committee is a 4-weekly news publication "Moors Express' which started in June 2015. It was my intention to post each issue on this website as they were produced. However this didn't really happen for a variety of reasons. I've decided to try again to see if I can do any better! The November and December 2016 editions are now displayed. Those of you who receive Moors Express regularly will note that the versions displayed here are mostly text without images and alterations from the Marketting Dept.who are responsible for publishing the official version.

Comments or suggestions are very welcome and I can be contacted at Bernard.warr@nymr.co.uk

I hope to be able throw some light on what we are doing and of course any opinions expressed are definitely my own and not those of the NYMR.
