Whitby 2nd Platform rebuilding begins
At long last the physical work of rebuilding the second platform at the NR Whitby Station has begun. For months the 'behind the scenes' work has been quietly moving forwards and this week the appointed contractor moved on to the site, established a compound and started to clear the work site. When completed the enlarged station will see up to 5 steam hauled departures a day for Pickering. This development is of crucial importance to the NYMR who expect to be able to tap into a whole new market offering outings along the heritage railway to Goathland, Levisham and Pickering. The work is scheduled to be completed in late June when a new, more intensive timetable will be introduced.
With the Railway quiet again after the February half-term running attention turned once again to the two major areas of relaying at Levisham and Hunters Bridge. On both Tuesday and Wednesday DBS Class 66, 66232 brought in a ballast train that was duly discharged on to the two sites. Further tamping and lining can know take place to eventually enable the TRS to be removed.
Trust Board Meeting
Friday saw a special meeting of the Board of Trustees at which a confidential briefing on the progress of the management reorganisation was given.
A4 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley'
Some disappointing news for the SNG owning group this week. The move to Sheringham for the North Norfolk Railway Gala has been cancelled by Network Rail "due to a weight restriction" between Norwich and Sheringham.
