2014 Daily Running Commences
As predicted in last weeks post the new turnout that will give access to Platform 2 at the station was installed last weekend. In addition the footings for the platform are being built as can be seen in these photographs by clicking HERE
There is quite a nice piece of video HERE that shows the state of play earlier in the week.
The last week of the winter timetable started yesterday and sees daily running between Pickering and Goathland until Friday 4th April. On Saturday 5th the new seasons timetable comes into force and will see daily running between Pickering and Whitby until Sunday 2nd November. In the period up to Friday 4th July a version of the 2013 timetable will operate with three trains daily to and from Whitby. Assuming the station alterations are completed to schedule, then the new more intense timetable, giving five trains daily to and from the resort will be introduced.
60007 Sir Nigel Gresley
Our Grosmont based A4 was in action yesterday (Saturday 29th) working an excursion from Kings Cross to York and return. A short video clip can seen by clicking HERE and HERE
B1 61264 returned to Grosmont in the company of NELPG’s K1 62005 yesterday evening after working The ‘Wansbeck,’ a meandering excursion from Newcastle to Boulby and back to Tees Yard. 62005 is expected to stay on the NYMR now until after the first weekend of the Spring Steam Gala.
As part of its 75th year birthday celebrations the Dalesman magazine asked its readers to vote for the top 75 Yorkshire Icons. Over 11,000 readers responded and it is pleasing to see that the NYMR was voted into the top 25.
Photographic Workshop Courses
For some time now the NYMR has been running digital photographic courses for aspiring railway photographers. The courses are held in Pickering Station in the Learning Centre on Platform 2 and cover all abilities. The Railway announced this week that there are still a few places left on the Beginners Course to be held on Friday 11th April. Full details of all courses can be found by clicking HERE
Volunteer and Staff Surveys 2011
On a remit from the Trust Board I attended a meeting on Friday of this week to see how we can take forward the issues raised in these surveys that have not yet been dealt with. We spent much time discussing how we might improve communications from the top to the bottom of this Railway. My experiences with writing this weekly Blog came in for much discussion and I am hopeful that an announcement will be made before the end of the week on how things can be taken forward. I shall be providing an update at the Trust Board meeting next Friday evening.
On Saturday 5th I shall be continuing my training in the Pickering Booking Office. As it is five months since I last did a turn I just hope that I haven’t forgotten all I learnt last year!
