Santa Specials Start
As previously mentioned (in an earlier post) the fully sold out Santa Specials started today with five departures from both Pickering and Grosmont. These carry on for the next three weekends. Additionally on Sundays, December 7th and 14th there will be three departures from Whitby. Services from Pickering run to Levisham and return, services from Grosmont run to just south of Goathland and the Whitby departures run to Glaisdale.
Yesterday, Saturday 29th, trains were running the full length of the line on the normal winter timetable.
Good news on the loco front this week, with BR Standard 4, 76079 being in steam and making regular test runs up the bank from Grosmont to Goathland. It is also reported that we have another locomotive on the line to help out with the Santa Specials. It is a WD ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0 ‘Sapper’ which has come to us from the East Lancs Railway. It is believed to have arrived by road at Newbridge Depot on Wednesday, steam was raised and it ran to Grosmont on Thursday.
In connection with the filming for ‘Dads Army’ (which took place this last week) Black Five 45428 has reverted to black LMS livery and carries the LMS letters on the tender with the number 5428 on the cabside. Many have commented favourably on the new look and hope that it will be retained after the filming has finished.
Trust Board Meeting
On Friday evening this week the Trust Board will be meeting and in the week after, on the 9th, the Communications Committee meets. I’ll report any interesting developments in a future post.
The Autumn edition of the magazine arrived yesterday, about a month late. The press day for the Winter edition is in less than three weeks and if the Communication Committee achieves nothing else it must at least ensure that these regular late publications become a thing of the past.
